It is with immense sadness that we have learned about the passing of our beloved colleague, Neliene Bekker. Neliene joined the SAHETI family in the position of Occupational Therapist in 2014. She immediately made her mark as a professional with integrity and a wealth of experience, and became an integral part of our Multi-Disciplinary Team. We will forever remember her joyful, kind and soft-hearted spirit and how she has touched the lives of so many. Our thoughts are with her husband and family during this difficult time.(Write-up: Mr Fred Schouwink)

FAREWELL DOLLY….
Eupraxia Bonofakidou-Zappala, using the literary pseudonym ‘Dolly Dalka’ but affectionately known to many of us as ‘kiria Dolly’, passed away on June 25th. She was born in Athens in 1932 and at the age of two, her family moved to Alexandria of Egypt. She grew up and studied there. In 1961 she emigrated to South Africa. She married and had two sons. She was proud of her Hellenic heritage and served as secretary of our Greek Department at SAHETI for over 20 years, retiring in 2004.

She was a prolific writer, an artist, and a composer of music. She received many accolades for her work, winning awards in Greece, Cyprus, and Johannesburg. Her Short stories and poems were published in many newspapers and periodicals and were included in anthologies of world literature. She published the periodical ‘Opinion’, under the auspices of the Johannesburg Cultural Agency, at her own cost. In 1987 this publication was awarded a Diploma of the First Degree by the Writers Union. She received an honourary Doctorate from the Portuguese Academy of Felgueiras.
Among her many literary works are the following:
• Ένα Ρολόι μέσα στο Δάσος / A Clock in the Forest
• Κάτω από τον Ήλιο / Under the Sun
• Εγώ / I
• Μετά τα Σαράντα / After the Forties
• Σημειωματάριο / Notebook
• Ανοιχτή Πορεία / Open Course
• Άσπρη Ώρα, Εκδ. Άλφα 1988 / White time, Ed. Alfa 1988
• Στα Μαύρα Χώματα / At the Black Sands
• Κάτω απ’ τον Ίδιο Ουρανό / Under the Same Sky
• Εποχές / Seasons
• Όσο Υπάρχουν Άνθρωποι / As long as humans exist

Kiria Dolly will be remembered by many of us here at SAHETI and in the Greek Community at large, for her gentle nature, her humility, her warmth, and her graciousness.
