SAHETI’s Rugby Sevens and Netball Festival always attracts a strong alumni following. For a fifth consecutive year, as part of the 23rd annual Rugby and Netball festival, the alumni games took place on the same sporting fields these past pupils once competed on.
This year saw a record number of old boys playing with 4 teams participating. A big thank you to Nick Catrakilis (2000) and Stratis Fotakis (2000) and their players, for supporting this great initiative and for helping to organize the teams.
The netball game comprised of a combined old girls’ team, who competed against a younger old girls’ team. The result remained uncontested as the game ended in favour of the combined old girls’ team. It was a treat to have special guest Ms. Andrea Constantinou handover medals and trophy to the old girls’. Andrea plays netball for the SA national team. To Koula Panayotakis (2000) and Angela Paschalides (2013) and their teams, thank you for your enthusiasm and passion to keep this event going.
This year the Alumni mascots stole the limelight. A new tradition was started and the old girls’ brought along their children to this fun-filled event as mini-mascots. They cheered for their moms with every ounce of their being and made their mark as the next generation Alumni.
An extra special mention goes to Helen Joannides (nee Lagoudis/1990) who co-ordinated the event on the day of the Festival. What a superb day!
A big thank you to the Alumni sponsors for their generous donations of the catering and drinks - Dimitra Avraamides (nee Synodinos/1991), Ria Mouskides (nee Georgiou/1983), Nik Halamandaris (1992), and Mario Hadjialexandrou (1991). Once again the Alumni hospitality tent was a hub of excitement and the place to be.
Events such as these reinforce the importance, continued growth and broadening of the Alumni network. See you all next year!
