SAHETI’s Rugby Sevens and Netball Festival is well supported by the Alumni. Alumni attend the event either to support their own children on the sports field or to participate in the old boys’ touch rugby or old girls’ netball game. For a third consecutive year, as part of the 21st annual Rugby and Netball festival, the Alumni games took place on SAHETI grounds.

The old boys invited the St John’s Old Johannian Association to participate in an exhibition game of touch rugby. Although the game was of a social nature, both sides were committed to outsmarting the opposition. Our old boys’ overwhelmed the crowds as they were victorious to win the game by 4 tries to 2.

In keeping with tradition, a new design was introduced for the old boys’ t-shirt. The old boys’ shirt which depicts the Greek flag, is a continuation of the legacy of the SAHETI first team rugby jersey with the exception of the colour.

The netball game comprised of a combined old girls’ team, under the leadership of Koula Panayotakis (2000) and competed against the 2013 first netball team. In true competitive spirit, the old girls’ took the game very seriously and the game ended in favour of the combined old girls’ team.

A highlight of the day was the SAHETI Alumni hospitality tent. The gazebo was a hub of excitement as the Alumni went through old photos of the the rugby and netball teams on display. In true Hellenic spirit eats and drinks were plentiful and the event ended on a high note.

A big thank you to Nick Catrakilis (2000) and Stratis Fotakis (2000) and their players, for supporting this great initiative and for helping to organize the teams. To Koula and her team, Eleni Christodoulou (2013) together with Sophia Sotiropoulos (captain of the 2013 netball team) and their players, thank you for your enthusiasm and passion. To the St John’s old boys’, thank you for taking up the challenge.
