SAHETI CELEBRATES OUTSTANDING RESULTS
SAHETI School’s class of 2009 received a total of 120 distinctions in the IEB FET National Senior Certificate examinations, while maintaining the school’s unbroken record of a 100% pass rate. Of the 65 pupils, 82% achieved a Bachelor Degree pass (university exemption). 23 pupils (35 % of the group) achieved multiple distinctions with 35 pupils (53.4% of the group) achieving at least one distinction. Commendable performances were achieved in Mathematics (20 distinctions), English (20 distinctions) and Life Orientation (21 distinctions).
SAHETI’s top achiever – Byron Vos – was amongst the IEB Outstanding Achievers (56 learners nationally), and three other learners – Evan Fotopoulos, Francesca Michael and Emily Nicholls – were amongst the IEB Commendable Achievers (48 learners nationally).
2009 was also the first time that Modern Greek was included as a designated FET subject, a development in which SAHETI played a pioneering role. The subject was written by 39 SAHETI pupils (of Greek and non-Greek origin), as an eighth subject, and also by four pupils from other schools. All candidates passed, with 11 of the 12 distinctions awarded nationally being earned by SAHETI pupils. Executive Head Mrs Anastasia Krystallidis is delighted with these results. She says: “SAHETI has always viewed the promotion of Modern Greek and Hellenic Studies in South Africa as enriching to the diversity of our society. We will continue to offer every possible support not only to our own pupils, but to all who wish to study the language”.
