Counselling

The Educational Psychologist in the Senior School, Michelle Wootton, provides help to the pupils with their academic progress, personal problems, and decisions concerning their careers. She attempts to help pupils understand themselves and their environment better, in order that they make wise decisions and accept responsibility for the outcome of these decisions.

A careers guidance service is provided which encompasses counselling, group talks, making current career information available. In light of the job-shadowing days in Grade 11, she liaises where necessary with outside agencies and assist pupils with University, Bursary and Job applications.

Personal Counselling is available to pupils experiencing personal and home problems. Parents are consulted, together with the Grade Manager/Tutor where there are adjustment problems with schoolwork or where pupils are underachieving. The Psychologist liaises with pupils and their parents, the Staff and the Headmaster in these areas and is always available to help and advise. Pupils and parents are requested to make appointments to see the Psychologist (011 453-8210 ext. 381), but in matters of urgency, every effort is made to see parents without delay.

Intelligence and aptitude tests are routinely administered in Grade 9 and 12 to assist with vocational and subject choice. All interviews and information are regarded as confidential. In cases where a team approach is required on a multi-disciplinary level, the Psychologist works closely with other medical professionals (e.g. Neurologist, Ophthalmologists).

Please do not hesitate to avail yourself to these services.
